REPEL THE BANSHEE

This project was a collaborative effort for a university project under the theme of Rejuvenation, exploring the transformative process of gender-affirming surgery within the Trans community. Gani and I worked together on all things starting from the concept, set design, styling, and up to the technical execution. The shoot aimed to highlight the glamour and beauty inherent in the journey of becoming one's true self, while also confronting the brutal realities of gender expression.

The aesthetic was intentionally editorial, with a focus on gender fluidity. We played with the juxtaposition of full glam makeup, accessories, and the raw, almost surgical imagery of gauze and bandages. Our models posed with a deliberate tension between femininity and masculinity , using light and shadows to evoke the emotional complexity of gender transition. The editing style was inspired by Jack Bridgland’s work, which helped emphasising the mix of beauty and discomfort.

Despite the challenging and intense nature of the shoot - four hours of preparation, makeup, and styling without even factoring in the shoot itself, it was, without a doubt, the most fun and rewarding project I’ve worked on. The collaboration between Gani and myself, along with our talented team, made it a truly magical experience, blending art and authenticity in a way that felt powerful and liberating for everyone involved.
